One of the coolest things that you really need to get your head around when looking at performance mindsets in business is this exercise. And this is an exercise I ask everyone to do, it's an exercise that I'd encourage you to do. And it's one that takes you from, kinda like just pushing along to really, really accelerating the growth of your business, both personally and professionally.

And the concept is, in order for your business to grow, I want you to consider that you employ yourself.

What I mean by that is not that you employ yourself and pay yourself a wage. What I mean is if you want your business to grow by half a million dollars, a million dollars, OK? Consider this. Go to the bank, borrow that much money and pay someone else to run your business for a million dollars, for the year. To improve the performance of your business by one million dollars, you must pay them one million dollars. And I want you to consider how you would expect that person to work.

How would they turn up to work? How would they answer emails? What would they eat, how would they sleep? How would they perform in meetings? What would they track? What would their attitudes and standards to life be? And when you take that into consideration, when you put money on the line, that’s exactly the gap between how you're performing now and how you need to perform in order to achieve that target. So consider this: you pay someone the growth that you want to achieve in your business; how much and how hard you expect that person to work in order to achieve it.

Work that out, and that's how you employ yourself.
